Pigeon Point Lighthouse is an old lighthouse along the coast off Highway 1, between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. Every year, for 2 hours, they light up the original lens in all directions like this. It stays still for the first ten minutes, and then starts spinning for the next 110 minutes. Thousands of people show up for this event, and probably even more than normal this year, because due to budget problems last year, the lighthouse was not lit. This was my first time photographing it and it did not disappoint.

Note: This is a newer version that I re-processed with some new methods I learned.

I've shot the lighthouse a few times but never at night nor lit. When do they light it?

check the description. they do an annual lighting for 2 hours. thousdands of people show up. check their website.

One of my favorite places. I've spent many a day and evening roaming the rocks, tide pools and fields that surround this iconic lighthouse. And I've stayed in the Hostel there as well. A true landmark on our beautiful coast.
