Milky Way over Moraine by StevenDavisPhoto Milky Way over Moraine by StevenDavisPhoto
While camping in my rented Dodge Grand Caravan for my 10 day Banff trip, I knew I wanted to shoot Moraine Lake at sunrise, so wanting to wake up as late as possible (because I love sleep), I managed to park in the parking lot for the night and sleep there. This presented a cool opportunity to be there late to shoot the Milky Way over the Moraine Lake Lodge. Enjoy!

This is easily my favorite picture of yours, photography and space are two of my favorite things! The way you composed it and the story that goes with it make it even more amazing.

I really need help learning to shoot night shots like this. I tried the other day and ended up with lots of noise, banding, and stars that moved just enough to make everything appear blurry. If you have any advice I would love to be able to shoot shots half as good as this. Thanks

google "photograph the milky way". u must shoot 30 seconds or faster, and use the widest aperture u can. i used 30 seconds and f/3.5. after that just pump up your iso until it looks good. i think i used 1600 iso.

30 seconds. milky way shots usually are. u want long enough to get the light, but not more than 30 seconds, because you will get star streaks if you go longer.

WoW! I tried very hard to get a picture like this of the sky, but I can't. the problem is that I can't leave the shutter open for more than 30 seconds with my camera. Can I ask what the shutter speed was and what was the camera you used?please?

you want EXACTLY 30 seconds. u just have to pump the ISO and use the widest aperture your lens supports. i used 30 seconds, f/3.5, and 1600 iso.
