Wanaka Sunrise by StevenDavisPhoto
Wanaka Sunrise
Sunrise at Lake Wanaka in New Zealand.

Everyone who's been to this area has "that shot" of this famous tree on Lake Wanaka, so of course I had to get mine. The weather had been rainy and windy the night before and I got really lucky with the clouds and light I think. I could not have asked for better conditions, except maybe less wind. It was blowing fairly well, so there was a lot of blur in the tree leaves for the longer exposures, so I had to take a separate 800 ISO, wider aperture shot, to freeze the leaves in place and blend the shots together in Photoshop. Very happy with the outcome. Enjoy!

Light in the Darkness by StevenDavisPhoto
Light in the Darkness
This was one of the shots I came to New Zealand to get. I got skunked with too many clouds the first night I got in from flying into Christchurch, but the next night I got a clear sky at the Church of the Good Shepherd. I had a to brave an obnoxious tourbus group who were smoking and joking with each other, but I got the shot.

City Under the Bridge by StevenDavisPhoto
City Under the Bridge
This shot has been done before by others, but I of course needed to do it for myself as well. San Francisco from Yerba Buena Island, looking under the Bay Bridge.

I have 2 loves. Jesus Christ and Photography.

God, being the most important thing in my life, the source of my existence and to whom all I owe obviously comes first. I am a messed up, imperfect human being, but Jesus died for me, paying the debt I owed to God because of my sin, so that I could have a relationship with Him again. I am constantly humbled by this fact. Also, that I am blessed enough to be given an eye for good composition, and that I have a job where I can afford to buy all the expensive equipment you need to make my shots.

I discovered my love for photography in December of 2008. Influenced by my Norwegian friend Arnfinn (www.flickr.com/photos/arnfinn/), who had a DSLR and showed me what it could do, I bought my first DSLR (a Canon Rebel XS). Since then I have really dove head first into landscape photography and a bit of wildlife photography as well.

I feel like I've learned very quickly. This is due to reading a great book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson that introduced me to the basics of exposing digital photographs as well as some hands on time with some great teachers, Stephen Oachs and Brian Rueb, from Aperture Academy (www.apertureacademy.com/). Their workshops have taken me to some amazing places and their personal instruction has helped make me the photographer I am today.

I love sharing what I know with anyone who is interested, so please hit me up anytime.

I know what your saying! I got a night photography book for valentines day and I live on top of a mountain in an isolated area so the sky looks wondrous here, I have just been waiting on a warm spring night to try it.
